This take on sloppy joes is just as delicious but is made with simple ingredients and a whole lot less sugar than the classic. This family-friendly recipe is easy, tasty, and makes for wonderful leftovers!

30 Minute Healthy Sloppy Joes are made with:

  • Lean ground beef or turkey: ground beef or turkey can be used in this recipe without much of a flavor change
  • Green pepper: any variety of bell pepper would work but I think green goes best in this recipe
  • Sweet onion: adds depth and flavor to this dish
  • Low sugar BBQ sauce: adds a little spice and flavor to the tomato base
  • Apple cider vinegar: keeps it tangy and apple cider vinegar is great for gut health
  • Mustard: I used dijon mustard but yellow mustard would work as well
  • No sugar Ketchup: ketchup that is made without sugar because you don’t need the extra sugar to make this meal tasty
  • coconut sugar: optional but if you need a little extra sweetness feel free to add a bit of coconut sugar or brown sugar

30 Minute Healthy Sloppy Joes

These healthy sloppy joes are an easy one-pan 30-minute meal that is a healthy take on the classic.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small sweet onion
  • 1 small green pepper
  • 1/4 cup low sugar BBQ sauce l
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup no sugar added ketchup
  • 1-2 tsp coconut sugar (can omit or leave out if paleo)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Chop onion and green pepper
  • Heat a skillet to medium and spray with oil
  • Add onion and pepper to skillet and cook til soft
  • Next, add in your ground beef and cook until meat has browned
  • Turn heat down to medium-low and add ketchup, bbq sauce, apple cider vinegar, mustard, and optional sugar to the skillet and stir to combine
  • Cover and let simmer on low for 5-8 minutes then serve
