We are all ready to travel-but nobody has time to feel bloated or insecure about their body. It is possible to enjoy yourself on a road trip and stay healthy.
How to Stay Healthy on a Road Trip
I just made a 4-day road trip to move from Charlotte, NC to Kentucky to visit my in-laws, then to Colorado-my NEW home state!
On this trip, I did not indulge much because we were traveling with a Uhaul, my dog Brody, and wanted to feel energized and focused for the drive.
So get your cooler ready and hit the road!
Healthy on a Road Trip Tips:
1. Start the day with at least 16 oz of water
2. Pack probiotics (My favorite is Just Thrive 15% off with code lauralivewell)
3. Eat a filling breakfast with fiber, fats, and around 25 to 30 grams of protein
I like to pack overnight oats or protein chia pudding which can be made ahead of time and kept in a cooler. Or you can bring oats, protein powder, and nut butter to make protein oats at the hotel.
4. Stop at rest stops to get some sunshine, short walks, and stretch breaks
5. Pack healthy snacks to keep you from getting hangry and overeating at mealtime
Snacks I like to pack:
- nuts
- seeds
- homemade trail mix
- fresh fruit
- veggies and dip
- turkey slices or turkey wraps
- individual containers of guacamole, nut butter, or hummus
- healthy protein bars (check the label for REAL food ingredients)
- homemade protein bites (like these or these)
- and some dark chocolate if you have a sweet tooth like me
6️⃣ Hydrate with more water-I always pack my hydro flask.
7️⃣ Get out and explore if you have time!
8️⃣ If it is a long drive try an informative and entertaining health podcast or audiobook and make a killer playlist
9️⃣ Stretch! Do a quick 10-minute youtube yoga video-your body will thank you after sitting in the car all day.
🔟 Go to sleep within an hour of the same time every night
I know it can be hard to have a sleep schedule when traveling, but getting to bed around the same time each night will ensure that you fall asleep easier, get enough rest, and won’t be reaching for sugary snacks to boost your energy.
I teach my clients how to navigate social events and vacations so they can enjoy themselves while still meet their goals.
