Creamy Green Smoothie For Toddlers

A creamy, naturally sweet green smoothie packed with banana, spinach, yogurt, and almond butter—an easy, nourishing snack for toddlers.

Getting a healthy meal or snack into a busy toddler can feel like a marathon, but this creamy green smoothie is a total game-changer in our house. It’s my go-to when I want to make sure my daughter gets her greens, healthy fats, and protein all in one delicious cup. As a mom, I love that it takes less than five minutes to whip up, and the combination of almond butter and banana makes it so creamy and sweet that the taste of the spinach completely disappears. It’s a great option for toddler breakfasts, snacks, and an easy way to add greens and protein into your child’s day.

  • Banana: Adds natural sweetness and creates a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Fresh spinach: A mild green that blends easily and adds vitamins and minerals without changing the flavor.
  • Greek yogurt: Adds protein and makes the smoothie thick and creamy.
  • Avocado (optional): makes extra creamy texture and provides a dose of healthy, brain-boosting fats for your little one.
  • Almond butter: Adds healthy fats and a rich, nutty flavor that makes the smoothie satisfying.
  • Milk: Helps blend everything together and creates the perfect smoothie consistency.
  • Cinnamon: Adds warmth and enhances the natural sweetness of the banana.

How to make this Creamy Green Smoothie for Toddlers:

Add your ingredients to the blender: Start with the milk and Greek yogurt on the bottom — this helps the blender run smoothly. Then add the spinach, banana, avocado almond butter, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Blend until completely smooth: Blend on high for about 60 seconds until everything is fully combined and silky smooth. If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more milk and blend again. If it’s too thin, add a few ice cubes or a little more yogurt.

Taste and adjust: Give it a quick taste — if you want it sweeter, add a little more banana, a drizzle of honey (12+ months only), maple syrup, or a pitted medjool date.

Pour and serve: Pour into a toddler cup with a straw or a small open cup depending on your toddler’s age and stage. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor or freeze in smoothie pouches so they are ready to grab and go.

Substitutions:

  • Swap almond butter for peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, or cashew butter
  • Regular plain yogurt or coconut yogurt for a dairy-free version both work well, but the texture will be slightly thinner.
  • Frozen spinach works well just use a smaller amount as it’s more concentrated.
  • Frozen zucchini or cauliflower are also great sneaky add-ins instead of spinach, but it won’t be the fun green color
  • Want to make it dairy-free? Use a coconut or almond milk yogurt and your favorite plant-based milk.
  • Need it nut-free? Swap the almond butter for sunflower seed butter — same creamy texture, totally nut-free.
  • For a sweeter smoothie, add one pitted medjool date or a teaspoon of maple syrup or honey.

Recipe Tips:

  • Use a frozen banana for a colder, thicker smoothie.
  • Blend the spinach with the milk first if you want an extra smooth texture.
  • Adjust the milk depending on how thick your toddler prefers their smoothie.
  • Serve in a straw cup or reusable pouch for easier toddler drinking.
