5 Healthy Habits You Can Start Today

Five healthy habits you can start today to live a healthier balanced lifestyle and reach your health and wellness goals.

Usually, we like to wait to start the new year, new month, or new week with health goals. Often we have resolutions that are forgotten or dropped within a few weeks.

Instead of waiting for the new year, start today by creating a healthy daily routine that is simple but effective. This helps to build consistency when it comes to your health.

Here are 5 healthy habits you can start today. I suggest picking one or two and focusing on them until it becomes natural then add in another.

1. Go for a morning walk:

Starting the day with a morning walk can boost your energy, improve your mood, and help you sleep at night by getting sunlight to regulate your circadian rhythm. By starting the day with a morning walk you are getting in movement instead of putting it off and then possibly running out of time to fit it in your schedule. By starting the day with a walk you are creating a healthy habit to begin your day which often leads to better choices throughout the day.

2. Add one more serving of veggies to your plate:

Instead of focusing on what to remove from your plate focus on adding one more veggie to your plate. Pick a meal and start adding one more serving of veggies to that meal every day. Veggies are whole foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They can help you maintain a healthy gut and by adding another veggie to your plate there is less room for processed foods.

3. Read ingredients not calories:

Food labels are tricky. Manufacturers use misleading tricks to convince people to buy products by making them seem healthy. Being in a calorie deficit will help you lose weight but not all calories are created equal. By reading the ingredients instead of calories you can choose real whole foods that support your health, wellness, and goals.

4. Sleep eight hours a night:

Sleep is the time of day when our bodies are able to relax, unwind, and recover. Many people are falling short of the recommended 8 hours of sleep a night and this can impact our health, wellness, and hunger cues.

5. Have patience and embrace a healthy lifestyle

Creating a healthy lifestyle does not mean cutting out food groups and making huge changes all at once. In fact, it is quite the opposite. By focusing on small daily habits you are more likely to maintain them for the long term.
